Local Groups and Organisations!

Recently we attended the Yate Wellbeing Roadshow, we met lots of great people and some other groups that are doing activities in the local area that may interest some of our passengers.
The Yate and District Townswomen Guild do coach trips, singing groups, knit and natter and quiz groups. It costs £30 to join them for a year (discounted half way through the year.) Have a look at their website; http://www.the-tg.com/homepage.aspx They also meet every second Wednesday morning of the month at Chipping Sodbury Town Hall, they are a very sociable group that incorporates many activivites. 
Yate Group for Visually Impaired People- They meet at Yate Fire Station on alternate Tuesday afternoons from 2:30pm until 4pm. Carers and guide dogs are welcome and Green Community Travel already provide transport for some people to this group. If you would like to join call Gay on 01454 321749.
Chipping Sodbury Baptist Church have a lot of different things that many of our passengers would enjoy, or that would be a help to them.
There is a Memory Cafe on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month. This is from 10:30am until 12noon at the Baptist Church. For more information call Sally or Jean on 01454 313023, email office@cs-bc.org.uk or see the website; http://cs-bc.org.uk/welcome/
There is also a Friendship Cafe on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month, this is from 10:15am until 12 noon and also at the Baptist Church. This is a relaxed meeting place to make new friends, have a listening ear and to relax. Winterbourne Memory Cafe
The Winterbourne Memory Café is open from 2pm – 4pm on the first Monday of every month (apart from bank holidays), and is held at the Greenfield Centre, Park Avenue, Winterbourne, BS36 1NJ.
Yate Memory Café
The Yate Memory Café is run and hosted by the Alzheimer’s Society with support from Yate Library.  The café meets on the last Thursday of the month from 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm. New attendees are very welcome to just turn up, or contact the library for more information on 01454 868006.

Emersons Green
The Emersons Green Café runs every second Thursday of the month, from 2.30pm to 4.30pm, and is held at Emersons Green Library, Emerson Way, Emersons Green BS16 7AP. You will meet friendly and supportive people affected by dementia and can spend time sharing information and experiences. Alzheimer’s Society staff and volunteers will be available to give you support, provide you with information and offer refreshments. There’ll be tea, coffee, soft cold drinks and cakes and a range of activities.  Although the café is run by Alzheimer’s Society it is equally suitable for people with other forms of dementia. The library will be open as usual so you can also take the opportunity to borrow books or DVDs, use the computers free of charge, and find out about library services.

Thornbury Memory Café
The Thornbury Memory Café is run by local people, and supports those in Thornbury and the surrounding area with some form of memory loss. The café meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month at 10.15am in the Methodist Church Hall. Anyone with a memory problem, together with a carer or friend is welcome. There is time for chatter and meeting with others. Please contact Sue Rowley 01454 412941.
